delighting in the new day God has given me
The baby comes and sleeps with me sometime around midnight. This is our deal. She falls asleep in the crib in our closet, but once she wakes to feed I go pick her up and pull her in close, and we sleep the rest of the night together. She’s nearly eight months old and just starting to sit on her own—a very different timeline from my other babies, who were already pulling to stand at this age. She can’t be left to cry herself back to sleep, and she doesn’t seem to be able to figure out how to self-soothe, so I’m just patient with her. We can nurse a few times in the night, still—it’s ok. I’ve been reminded by friends that this is my first time mothering a little one with Down Syndrome, so I have grace for myself, too.
